The  Winchester Life Group, part of the national Life Charity, have been planning and fundraising for the past year to open a Life Charity Shop in Winchester.  Premises have been found and preparations are underway to open later this year. Parish support has been tremendous thus far.

The Life Shop not only aims to provide an assortment of good quality second hand goods at affordable prices, but to be a presence in the centre of town,  a place where Life’s other services, Housing, Caring and Education can be accessed  and where a sense of support and community can be found and fostered.   It is planned to use the large first floor of the premises for young mothers to meet, feel at home and have the opportunity to learn various life skills, eg; sewing and mending, budgeting etc as well as some more pampered or creative activities.  HomeStart  are happy to provide us with beginnings of a client base which will grow as we become known

From the parish, most immediately we need short term help with cleaning, clearing, painting and decorating.  We will always need  continued regular donations of goods and committed volunteers to work a regular half day shift.   We would particularly love to hear from anyone who is a trained counsellor and could offer either mentoring  or counselling in our Care Sevice,  or indeed from anyone who would like to train at any level in this area .

LIFE is a pro-life charity that supports anyone facing a crisis pregnancy, pregnancy loss or after an abortion, and strives to engage, inspire and inform the next generation.

We do this through our three core services:

  • LIFE Care consists of a network of Care Centres across the UK, a national Helpline and a Text to talk service, offering free non-directive counselling and support for anyone facing a crisis pregnancy, suffering the loss of a baby or coping after abortion.  We also provide free baby clothes, equipment and other practical support to women and families in difficulty.
  • LIFE Education works in partnership with schools to provide young people with up-to-date, evidence-based information and inspires students to think for themselves on issues such as relationships, abortion, sexual health and other related topics.
  • LIFE Housing is one of the largest providers of accommodation for pregnant women and unsupported mothers aged between 16-25 years in the UK.  Our comprehensive service offers a real, practical alternative to abortion and prepares tenants for independent living with their children in the future.
  • LIFE Fertility Care under the aegis of the Life Hospital Trust provides the pro-life alternative to IVF.
